The DEVA DB8008 is a digital silence monitor with MP3 and IP audio backup players, designed to protect radio stations from unexpected audio loss. It continuously supervises multiple program inputs and, on detecting silence, instantly switches to a predefined backup source. With a fully DSP-based core and intelligent silence detection, it delivers fast and transparent changeovers that keep listeners on-air without disruptive gaps. This makes the DB8008 a reliable watchdog for both single stations and large radio networks.
The unit supports a wide range of audio sources, including balanced analog and AES/EBU digital inputs, consumer S/PDIF, as well as multiformat IP audio streams. Built-in MP3 and AAC playback with around 2GB of storage allows more than 24 hours of non-repeating backup audio, updated remotely via the integrated FTP server. User-selectable backup source priority gives engineers flexibility to define whether MP3, IP or auxiliary inputs should take over in a given scenario. Digital volume control on all inputs and outputs simplifies level matching across the chain.
Configuration and monitoring are available via a web interface, SNMP, front-panel LCD and keypad, making integration into modern IP-based infrastructures straightforward. The DB8008 can send alert notifications by email, SNMP and opto-isolated outputs, ensuring that engineering staff are informed as soon as a silence event occurs. UPnP support and password-protected access help with device discovery and secure remote control. Housed in a 19-inch 1U rack-mount chassis with a wide-range 100–240VAC power supply, the DB8008 is built for 24/7 operation in demanding broadcast environments.
