Biquad Punch AM/FM Audio Processor is the most complete version of the Punch family, created for broadcasters that want maximum flexibility, loudness and long-term integration options in their air chain. It uses a 5-band DSP architecture to control dynamics and increase loudness for FM and migrated AM applications, while keeping the sound clean, defined and competitive against much more expensive processors.
At the input, Punch features an intelligent AGC stage that stabilises the average level coming from the studio mixer or automation. The programme audio is then split into five independent frequency bands, each processed with advanced compression and limiting algorithms designed to maximise loudness and mask distortion artefacts. Time-aligned limiters and modern dynamic control ensure that the processor can deliver a strong, detailed sound without the harshness often associated with aggressive processing.
The front panel of the Biquad Punch combines an encoder, high-contrast OLED display and USB port, providing direct access to parameters, presets and status. A supplied control application for PC presents the full processing chain visually, making it easy to shape the station’s sound, create custom presets and choose from factory configurations for music and speech formats. An Ethernet port on the rear panel enables remote control and monitoring from anywhere, allowing engineers to manage Punch Full even when they are away from the transmitter site.
Where Punch really distinguishes itself from the Punch S version is in its connectivity and expansion. It offers analog and AES-3 digital audio inputs and outputs, an analog MPX output plus a digital MPX output on AES with 24-bit / 192 kHz resolution for direct connection to modern exciters and RF modulators. There is also a Word Clock input for synchronisation, integrated RDS input so MPX and RDS can be combined and fed to the transmitter on a single cable, and communication interfaces such as GPIO, RS-232, USB and Ethernet for automation and system integration.
The Biquad Punch processor’s modular design allows further expansion through optional cards. A streaming card (under development) enables direct web radio transmission from the processor itself, using encoders such as MPEG, AAC and OGG Vorbis without needing a dedicated computer. An Audio-over-IP (AoIP) card will support protocols like AES67, RAVENNA, DANTE and LIVEWIRE, allowing full integration into IP-based studios and distribution networks, and making Punch Full a central node in an all-digital broadcast infrastructure.
Biquad Punch is designed to sit between the studio and transmitter in demanding air chains and works very well with transmitters available from Broadcasters Warehouse. It can feed compact exciters such as the RVR TEX30LCD/S 30W FM transmitter, scalable systems like the RFE Broadcast DS1000C 30W–1.1kW FM transmitter, and complete transmission packages including the Nautel 5kW FM Package, ensuring that its processed analog or digital MPX output integrates cleanly into a wide variety of modern FM and AM air chains.
