Moonraker 100MF is a self-supporting, top-loaded medium-frequency antenna system for non-directional beacons, low-power AM broadcasting and specialist MF communications. It provides an omnidirectional, vertically polarised radiation pattern without requiring a tower-supported wire antenna, making it suitable for sites where available space, installation cost or local infrastructure limits conventional antenna options.
The 10 m radiator is base mounted and uses a loading coil with eight 2 m top-loading radials to increase electrical length and improve performance at MF frequencies. It operates from 300 to 500 kHz with a suitable antenna tuning unit and can be extended for use up to 2 MHz. The system is designed for low-power transmission applications, handling up to 100 W CW with 100% amplitude modulation.
Moonraker 100MF is engineered for exposed marine and land-based locations. Its heavy-gauge, tempered marine-grade aluminium construction is designed to withstand winds of up to 216 km/h without permanent deformation, while the top deflection remains below 3 m at that wind speed. This makes it suitable for offshore platforms, coastal facilities, remote transmitter sites and other installations where durability is a priority.
Correct installation includes a suitable antenna tuning unit and an RF earth mat matched to the site conditions. The antenna mounts through a 285 mm base flange and uses a stainless-steel connection stud for the RF feed. An appropriate ground system is essential to the performance of a short vertical MF radiator and should be planned as part of the complete transmission installation.
Moonraker 100MF should be installed with a purpose-designed Moonraker 100MF Earth Mat to provide the RF ground system needed for efficient operation. It can also be integrated with a compatible MF transmitter and antenna tuning unit, allowing engineers to build a complete low-power MF broadcast or navigation-beacon transmission system.
