Glensound Spark 1 is a sub-compact, single-user Dante commentary unit designed for broadcast, sports, outside broadcast, live-event and studio applications. It provides a complete commentator position in a small desktop format, combining a professional microphone input, local headphone monitoring, programme output and one dedicated talkback channel. Its 80 × 80 × 125 mm enclosure is well suited to commentary locations where desk space is limited, including sports venues, temporary production positions and mobile OB installations.
Built around Audinate’s Broadway Dante chipset, Glensound Spark 1 connects directly to a Dante network through a locking Neutrik EtherCON connection. It provides eight Dante inputs and eight Dante outputs, while requiring only four inputs and four outputs for core commentary operation. The remaining network channels can be assigned for additional programme, IFB, communications or monitoring signals, giving system designers flexibility without adding another interface.
The commentator’s microphone connects through a balanced 3-pin XLR input with adjustable gain. Input mode can be selected for line level, microphone level or microphone level with 48 V phantom power, allowing Spark 1 to work with a broad range of professional dynamic and condenser microphones. An integrated compressor/limiter helps control input level and reduce the risk of clipping during live transmission.
A 6.35 mm headphone output provides local monitoring for headphones with an impedance range of 32–1000 Ω. Cue input 1 is available directly from the top-panel rotary control, while additional cue sources can be configured through Glensound’s GlenController application. Dante outputs 3 and 4 mirror the headphone mix, enabling remote monitoring or recording of the commentator’s local listening feed.
The Spark 1 adds one illuminated, configurable talkback button alongside the programme button. This can be assigned for communication with a producer, director, camera position, technical team or other nominated destination. Button operation, including momentary, latching and intelligent modes, can be configured in GlenController, which also supports remote monitoring and system configuration.
Glensound Spark 1 is an efficient choice for productions needing one commentator and one talkback route without the footprint of a larger commentator panel. For two or three independent talkback paths, consider the Glensound Spark 2 or Glensound Spark 3. For a larger multi-user Dante commentator position, choose the Glensound CU001 Dante.
