Overview – Eddystone XE150 150W FM Exciter / Transmitter

The Eddystone XE150 150W FM exciter / transmitter is a highly advanced, fully featured broadcast platform that can be used as a wideband exciter or as a stand-alone low power transmitter.
Use of wideband design techniques means frequency setting is easily achieved from soft keys on the front panel in 50 kHz steps, with no further internal tuning required.
The same frequency control can also be accessed remotely via RS232 or TCP/IP ports on the rear panel, supporting networked and N+1 installations.

The Eddystone XE150 uses a unique ultra-linear modulator to give superb sound reproduction with freedom from overshoots and artefacts, even at high deviation levels.
A precision temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) provides exceptional frequency stability, specified at better than ±200 Hz across the FM band.
Very conservatively rated components and an efficient switch-mode power supply are employed to ensure high reliability and good electrical efficiency in continuous 24/7 use.

The PA section in the Eddystone XE150 uses the proven “fresh-air-tunnel” cooling concept, where a fan drives unfiltered air through a specially designed heatsink, reducing the need for routine filter changes while maintaining safe operating temperatures.
A VSWR cut-back circuit allows the transmitter to operate into any load without damage by reducing output power automatically under adverse antenna or line conditions.
This protects the power amplifier stage and helps broadcasters maintain on-air continuity during fault conditions.

Front-panel LCD metering shows forward and reflected RF power, internal voltages, heatsink temperature and modulation level, with quick-view LEDs indicating CPU status, system normal, modulation status and external mute.
Additional LEDs on the PA section display forward and reverse power, temperature and CPU status, while a unique modulation alarm provides alarm outputs for loss of audio or over-modulation.
A front-panel RF monitor point and fully buffered baseband monitor output simplify test and alignment, and the rear-panel remote socket supports carrier muting and status signalling to external control systems.

RF output is adjustable from approximately 1 W up to 150 W over the 87.5–108 MHz band, with harmonic and spurious outputs typically better than -70 dBc and -100 dBc respectively to meet regulatory requirements.
AC mains input is 100/115/230 V ±10% at 50/60 Hz, and the 3U rack-mount chassis offers a compact footprint for integration into existing racks.
These features make Eddystone XE150 an excellent choice for main, standby and translator roles where audio quality, frequency agility and robust protection are critical.
