The Eddystone S79005 500 Watt FM transmitter provides the modular architecture that Eddystone is renowned for in a compact, cost-effective package. Using E2021 300 W hot-pluggable power amplifier modules, the Eddystone S79005 can maintain service while a faulty module is replaced, making it ideal for stations that demand high uptime and straightforward on-site maintenance.
Drive from a suitable FM exciter is fed to an internal two-way splitter which feeds the PA module inputs. Each E2021 amplifier module used in the Eddystone S79005 employs dual MOSFET devices on a substantial heatsink with carefully managed airflow, delivering high efficiency and robust RF performance across the standard 87.5–108 MHz FM band. Outputs from the two power modules are combined through a highly efficient common-rail Wilkinson combiner, followed by an output coupler and low-pass harmonic filter to ensure clean spectrum and reliable operation into a 50 Ω load.
Output power from the Eddystone S79005 is adjustable up to 500 W, with the ability to reduce level by up to 6 dB to suit licensed power and antenna system requirements. The transmitter is designed to maintain full power into a VSWR of 1.5:1 before protection circuits begin to reduce output, helping protect the amplifier and antenna system. Single-phase 85–265 V AC mains feeds one or two high-efficiency, power-factor-corrected switched-mode power supplies which can be configured for redundancy depending on the model variant.
Monitoring and control information from each amplifier module is processed by an E2023 transmitter controller, providing clear LCD indication of forward and reverse power, module status and key operating parameters. Local front-panel controls and an internal web interface allow engineers to check status and adjust settings at the rack or over IP. In typical installations the Eddystone S79005 is used as a standalone 500 W transmitter or as a modular building block in higher power systems, and many engineers also explore other Eddystone Broadcast transmitters here, exciters and RF amplifiers to build a complete, scalable FM broadcast network.
