Aqua Tool – MicroMPX Encoder

The Aqua Tool MicroMPX Encoder upgrades legacy analogue STL paths to a low-bitrate digital MPX link with reliable IP transport for modern FM broadcast networks.

Product overview

The Aqua Tool MicroMPX Encoder is a compact, engineer-focused unit for transporting a full FM composite signal over IP at very low bitrates. Built on a customised Linux platform with integrated MicroMPX technology, it delivers stable 24/7 operation and clean FM audio including pilot and RDS. It is ideal for broadcasters who want to modernise studio-to-transmitter links without replacing existing RF infrastructure. Key features

  • Transforms traditional analogue STL chains into a modern digital MicroMPX link for single or multiple transmitter sites.
  • Delivers composite FM MPX at low bitrates while maintaining audio quality and modulation integrity.
  • Dual LAN ports, SNMP support and HTTPS control for integration into managed IP broadcast networks.
  • Pairs directly with Aqua Broadcast COBALT transmitters fitted with the optional MicroMPX licence.
  • Advanced automation with scheduler, silence detection and automatic failover between sources.
  • USB backup audio player and Shoutcast/Icecast stream input for resilience and flexible routing.
  • Dual RGB front-panel displays, HDMI output and web confidence monitoring for clear status and control.

Connectivity and I/O

The Aqua Tool MicroMPX Encoder provides AES/EBU digital audio I/O on RJ45, analogue MPX in and out on BNC, and digital MPX over AES192 for direct connection to suitable FM exciters. Dual Ethernet interfaces allow separation of control and audio networks or simple redundancy.

In operation

Designed for demanding FM sites, the unit offers remote management with secure web access plus SNMP integration. Compact and robust, it fits easily into existing racks and gives engineers a straightforward path to MicroMPX-based STL and distribution feeds.
