2WCOM MPX-2c is a professional two-channel FM MPX over IP STL codec for delivering complete FM composite signals from a studio or playout centre to transmitter sites. It transports the finished FM multiplex, including programme audio, stereo pilot and RDS data, allowing broadcasters to create the on-air signal once and distribute it reliably over IP.
By transporting the complete composite signal, the 2WCOM MPX-2c keeps audio processing, stereo generation and RDS encoding at the studio. This reduces equipment, rack space and service requirements at remote transmitter sites, while helping each location transmit the same controlled programme signal and data.
The codec supports point-to-point and point-to-multipoint operation for single studio-to-transmitter links, regional FM networks and multi-site distribution. At each transmission site, the recovered MPX output connects to a compatible FM exciter. This provides a streamlined STL architecture without requiring separate stereo generators, audio processors or RDS encoders at every transmitter location.
2WCOM MPX-2c provides analogue and digital MPX interfaces, with an optional MPX-to-L+R decoder for local monitoring or alternative audio-feed requirements. Full-resolution MPX transport requires approximately 3.5 Mbit/s of IP capacity, while µMPX mode reduces bandwidth requirements from 320 kbit/s for lower-capacity connections.
For dependable IP delivery, the codec supports Dual Streaming, Pro-MPEG forward error correction and SRT transport. Configuration and monitoring are handled through the web interface, with HTTP, FTP, Telnet, NMS and SNMP support for remote management. Optional dual hot-pluggable power supplies can be specified for critical transmission installations.
Timing features support synchronised transmission across multiple locations. NTP provides aligned playout between transmitter sites, while optional 1PPS, PTP and GPS timing enable precise delay control for Single Frequency Network applications.
2WCOM MPX-2c works with a central FM audio processor and RDS encoder, then feeds recovered MPX directly to compatible FM exciters at the transmitter sites. It is a practical solution for resilient STL links, regional FM networks and synchronised multi-transmitter coverage.
