The Sonifex RB-FS42 is a 1U audio failover switcher for programme distribution head-ends and critical network nodes. It monitors multiple programme paths and, when a destination fails, automatically routes the affected audio to one of two standby paths so encoders or decoders can be backed up without interrupting service. This four-plus-two architecture makes the Sonifex RB-FS42 ideal where several important feeds share a pair of robust standby signals.
The unit supports up to four main programme signal paths, each with matched analogue, AES/EBU and RS232 connections on rear-panel D-type connectors. Two standby paths can be assigned so any failed main destination can be re-routed to a healthy encoder or decoder. Alarm inputs for each path drive the internal relay matrix, which can switch a channel to Standby 1, Standby 2, pass-through or silence according to configuration.
Dual power inputs feed redundant supplies, while a passive signal path maintains straight-through connection of all four programmes if both supplies fail. General-purpose outputs report PSU and standby status for remote alarm panels, and an Ethernet port offers IP control, browser-based configuration and SNMP monitoring. Compact 1U construction makes the Sonifex RB-FS42 a strong choice for crowded racks at transmitter, head-end and network gateway sites where continuous audio delivery is essential.
