The Belar AMMA-2 – Modulation Monitor / Analyzer is a DSP-based AM modulation monitor designed to give precise, repeatable measurements of on-air performance. It displays positive and negative peak modulation, peaks per minute, average modulation and modulation density, helping engineers run loud yet compliant AM signals. Covering roughly 150 kHz to 30 MHz with selectable 50 ohm or 500 ohm RF inputs, the Belar AMMA-2 suits everything from medium-wave stations to HF services.
All measurements are referenced directly to carrier level and the unit supports MDCL operation, tracking carrier high and low values so readings remain accurate in any mode. A built-in Audio Sentry function supervises programme audio and raises alarms for loss or low modulation. The front panel combines large numeric LED readouts with a menu display and status indicators, while non-volatile memory stores set-up data so configuration is retained after power interruptions.
Balanced audio outputs on XLR and BNC provide wide-band AM audio with low distortion and high signal-to-noise ratio for monitoring or further analysis. For integration with modern plant control, the Belar AMMA-2 includes an RS-232/RS-422 serial port with an ASCII command set plus rear-panel relay contacts for remote alarms. Housed in a 1U 19-inch rack chassis with universal AC power, it is a rugged, long-term solution for precision AM transmitter monitoring.
