Overview. The AudioScience ASI5811 sound card is a low-profile linear PCM audio adapter designed for radio broadcast production, automation and logging systems. It provides two stereo record streams and four stereo play streams that can be routed between balanced analog and AES/EBU digital I/O, giving engineers flexible signal flow inside Windows or Linux playout servers. A dedicated microphone input with low-noise preamp and 48V phantom allows direct connection of presenter or voiceover mics to the PC.

Key features. The AudioScience ASI5811 sound card offers one balanced stereo analog input and one balanced stereo analog output on 24 bit converters with high dynamic range and low THD+N, providing clean programme paths for on-air use.

A separate AES/EBU digital input with hardware sample-rate converter lets off-air or external digital sources with varying sample rates be recorded without clicks or pitch errors. Four stereo PCM playback streams and two stereo record streams support sample rates from 11 to 192 kHz in 8, 16 or 32 bit formats. MRX multi-rate DSP handles internal mixing and routing so different sample rates can coexist while still feeding fixed-rate outputs. GPIO on the second bracket provides opto-isolated inputs and relay outputs for fader starts, tallies and external control, and SoundGuard transient suppression protects all I/O from lightning and surge events.

Typical applications. In on-air and production servers the AudioScience ASI5811 sound card is used to provide multiple playout channels for automation and separate record paths for logging or production. The mic input supports live voice work without an external USB interface. The combination of analog and AES/EBU I/O suits hybrid plants where consoles, processors and codecs may be analog or digital. Multiple AudioScience PCIe cards can be installed in a single system to create high channel-count playout and ingest engines in compact 1U or 2U machines.

Broadcast workflow integration. Drivers are available for Windows and Linux, including low-latency ASIO and ALSA support, so the AudioScience ASI5811 sound card integrates with major playout, editing and automation software. DC-coupled I/O and output level control in 1 dB steps simplify lining up to existing reference levels and outboard processors. When combined with other AudioScience linear PCM and AoIP cards in the same chassis, the ASI5811 forms part of a scalable, reliable audio engine for modern radio and streaming facilities.

Alternatives and related products.
