AEA Technology E20/20B Network TDR – Cable Fault Locator for VDV and RF Networks helps technicians investigate coaxial and twisted-pair cable problems using step time-domain reflectometry. Configured with BNC and RJ45 connections and a VDV/RF cable library, it combines portable operation with detailed trace analysis. The published range extends to 20,000 ft at a velocity factor of 0.99, with actual reach dependent on cable characteristics.
The AEA Technology E20/20B platform supports coax, twinax, triax, outside-plant cables and twisted pairs from Cat 2 to Cat 6A. MicroFault locating helps reveal small coaxial kinks and crushes that can be difficult to distinguish on a conventional trace. Test Lead Null, cursor zoom and impedance scaling assist fault investigation. Two independent cursors provide distance and differential readings, while cable tones help identify runs or pairs.
AEA Technology E20/20B stores 32 traces with names, dates and times for later recall. Its editable library holds 64 cable types with impedance and velocity-factor information. ETDR PC Vision software supports trace transfer and custom cable-list management, helping technicians document results and retain useful test configurations. A Setup Wizard and context-sensitive help guide instrument operation.
A transflective, backlit quarter-VGA display supports field use. Eight rechargeable AA NiMH cells provide approximately 5.5 hours of continuous operation under published conditions; alkaline cells are an alternative. The splash- and dust-resistant enclosure is documented as having undergone MIL-STD-810G transient-drop testing. The compact instrument can be carried in its supplied belt case.
