AEA Avionics TDR Kit – Cable Testing for Aviation Professionals

The AEA Avionics TDR Kit is a Boeing-approved step TDR solution specifically designed for aviation professionals, providing fast fault location and verification on aircraft coax, wiring harnesses and power cables with an aviation cable list and rugged anti-FOD case.

The AEA Avionics TDR Kit is built for aircraft maintenance and avionics technicians who need reliable cable testing and fault location on modern and legacy aircraft. Using step time-domain reflectometer technology, it provides highly accurate traces showing distance to cable ends, faults, impedance changes and loop resistance, helping engineers quickly identify opens, shorts, bad connectors and damaged sections in coax, twisted pairs, single wires in harnesses and aircraft power cables.

At the heart of the kit is the Avionics TDR based on the E20/20 series, an EMI-shielded, explosion-resistant instrument with both BNC and RJ-45 test ports and an aviation-customised cable list stored in memory. The list gives quick access to velocity factor and impedance data for common aviation coax, twisted pairs and single wires, ensuring traces are scaled correctly and fault distances are accurate along the full cable run.

The AEA Avionics TDR Kit includes a comprehensive set of test leads and adapters to reach different parts of the aircraft wiring system. Accessories cover coax connectors, RJ-45 terminations and single-wire connectors in typical avionics harness sizes 12, 16, 20 and 22, along with pin and socket leads and alligator clip cables for bare or hard-to-access conductors. This accessory set is organised in an ATA-rated, MIL-STD-tested anti-FOD case with custom foam and clear lid labelling so each tool has a defined position, reducing the risk of items being lost or left inside the airframe.

For documentation and training, the Avionics TDR Kit is supplied with ETDR PC Vision™ software, manuals and avionics-focused training material. The software lets users upload, save, print and email TDR traces, customise cable lists for specific aircraft types and build trace records over time for maintenance history and regulatory compliance. Ranges from 0–10 ft (0–2 m) up to 20,000 ft (5 km) with selectable scales and high distance accuracy make the kit suitable for short internal harnesses and long runs out to antennas or external equipment.
